Review of iPhone apps for Car Insurance: Geico, State Farm, Allstate, Progressive

Each of the major Car Insurance companies advertises heavily to get new customers and promote their brand. Each also has their iPhone app. A review of the iPhone apps for Car Insurance from Allstate, Geico, Progressive and State Farm is below.

As can be seen from the screenshots, this first version of the car insurance apps provides very limited functionality bordering on not being useful.

Using these apps, you can

Contact the Insurance Company

Find information – nearby Gas stations, Tow companies, Car repair shops, Restaurants etc.
In all cases, Google is a much better source for all this information.

Prepare an Accident report – collect information that will be required to file a claim.
Fill out form, take pictures etc. However, as stated by Geico, the claims have to be filed by calling an agent or filling out forms at their website. As such, the app itself is not useful.

Bill Pay – pay your insurance bill.

For any meaningful actions, you’ll still end up calling your insurance agent.

Hopefully, future versions of these app will provide a full, integrated experience to customers - allow customers to perform useful tasks. And, allow prospective customers to learn more about the insurance company so they can make a decision.
