iGEM 2010, Synthetic Biology in action

Check out iGEM 2010, the International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition, this weekend.

The competition is for building biological systems from standard biological parts, it is Synthetic Biology in action. The competition is filled with interesting projects. A few examples -

Team Cambridge’s E.glowli             Creating synthetic bioluminescence

Team EPF_Lausanne’s  Asaia        Bacteria that blocks malaria propagation in mosquitoes

Team Groningen’s Hydrophobofilm  A self-assembling hydrophobic film
