National Bank of Australia (NAB) Failure due to IBM Mainframe

Last weeks system-wide failure at National Bank of Australia (NAB) was due to an IBM mainframe upgrade that went awry (via Register).

And, a failure it was – ATM machines stopped working, transactions did not complete, wrong transactions were posted in accounts and more - millions of customers were affected.

NAB is now catching up with the transactions and has taken corrective action. It has also setup a compensation process for customers.

Some say, Christmas came early for HP, IBM’s main competitor for mission-critical large systems.
