What went wrong at Solyndra?

Michael Kanellos describes what went wrong at Solyndra.

The industry consensus seems to be that Solyndra will not make it. They do know how to spend money but not make money. Its technology is too expensive compared to its competitors and that is just one of its problems.

Is Solyndra’s tale a harbinger for the solar industry?  The technology breakthroughs simply haven’t been there for Solar, which will allow it to become pervasive. Solar’s costs are still too high for consumers and the conversion efficiencies too low for mass-market adoption. The industry has been propped up with Government subsidies worldwide and that cannot be sustained in the long term.

Solar’s day will come but not in its present form.
