YouTube embeds, Audio Disabled Issue

Recently a new issue has started popping up for YouTube embedded videos; the audio is disabled and cannot be turned on.

It can be seen on websites across the Internet e.g. check the issue right here on Google’s official blog. Check the audio button at the lower left of the video. The audio button is disabled and cannot be enabled i.e. no sound (screen shot below).

The only way to get sound is to right-click on the audio button, get the menu and then click on ‘watch on YouTube’. Getting a new embed code for the video from YouTube and resizing it slightly also seems to work.

The behavior is the same with different browsers.

Along with draining batteries on laptops, is this yet another issue for Adobe’s Flash?  Or an issue specific to YouTube?
