Gigabit Internet in Hong Kong

If you want Gigabit Internet in Hong Kong, HKBN FibreHome 1000 plan should be at the top of your list.

At HKD 199/month, about USD 25/month, FibreHome 1000 is an ultra cheap plan for Gigabit speeds and compares well with other providers of fastest Internet worldwide. New York Times recently praised Hong Kong Broadband Network (HKBN) for these speeds.

But, is there a catch?

As shown at HKBN’s website, the Gigabit speeds are only available within Hong Kong; If you are accessing a website outside Hong Kong, your speed will drop to 20 Mbps symmetric, which is determined by HKBN’s International Internet connection. While 20 Mbps is 50x lower than the Gigabit speeds, it is still a very good speed and at HKD 199/month, a great deal.

And, what is refreshing is HKBN being upfront about these differences.
