Manila Speeding Camera Photos, Online

Manila speeding camera photos are online. The automated cameras are installed on Commonwealth Avenue in metro Manila where the speed limit is 60 km/h (37.5 mph). This car was captured going at 128 km/h (80 mph).

To discourage speeding, the local authority, in addition to imposing fines on the violators (speeding tickets in the mail) is trying to shame the violators by posting their speeding photos online. An unusual approach for sure and with privacy implications. The Metro Manila Development Authority also wants to put these automated cameras on other highways in Manila.

Hopefully, the automated cameras make the roads safer and they are not just a way to increase revenue for the City. And, this does not become a cat-and-mouse game with the motorists trying to make themselves invisible to the cameras with anti-camera products such as photoblocker sprays and anti-photo covers for the license plates.

And iPhone apps such as Trapster crowd-source speed trap locations to alert motorists.
