Do you need MyCleanPC, similar virus removal tools?

If your PC is suffering from virus or other malware, you have an urgent need to clean the PC right away and make sure that the PC does not get infected again.

MyCleanPC is advertised as being able to help you clean up your PC. It will scan your PC and report errors found and then you are encouraged to purchase its parent product Cyber-Defender.

Do you need to buy virus removal tools such as MyCleanPC, MyFasterPC etc?

A short answer, No.

Here are simple and free steps that you can follow which will clean up your PC and make sure you don’t get infected again.

Step 1
Download Malwarebytes an excellent anti-malware tool, the free edition.
Run a full scan on your PC, and remove any viruses, trojans, spyware, adware, rootkits or any other malware reported.
Step 2
Download SuperAntispyware free edition, another good anti-malware tool.
Run a full scan on your PC, and remove any bad malware reported
While Malwarebytes is quite thorough itself, the additional SuperAntiSpyware scan will ensure that all malware was detected and removed.

These two steps will ensure that your PC is fully clean. Malware removal will also speed up the PC. Make sure to periodically, say once a week, keep updating their malware definition files, which is also free. This makes sure that whenever you do a scan, you can detect and fix the latest malware.

Now, to prevent future malware infections on your PC.

Step 3
Stop using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer – it is the source for most PC malware infections. Instead get Google Chrome browser and start using that. It is one of the fastest and most secure browsers. An alternative is Apple’s Safari browser, which is also secure but is slower than Chrome and, Safari sometimes slow the PC.

Adobe Flash is also a source for malware infections sometimes. Although Chrome will keep you updated with the latest, most secure version of Flash, to be extra safe, you can disable Adobe Flash in Chrome and re-enable it when needed.

Step 4
As an added safety step, before visiting unknown websites, type their URL in Google and make sure that no warnings are posted for that website. Google is prompt in detecting and warning if a website is infected with malware.

If you follow the above steps, your PC will stay protected and you do not need to buy virus removal tools from MyCleanPC or others.

What about buying and installing anti-virus software from Symantec, McAfee, an Intel company, and others? By following the above steps you may not need to get anti-virus software either. Anti-virus software from Symantec, McAfee creates a very bad user experience (follow the links above) and with your credit card, tries to lock you in recurring subscriptions.
