H.265 Video Decoding Demo from Qualcomm

H.265 vs H.264 video decoding demo from Qualcomm.

Currently, most of the video on the web is H.264 video.

H.265 video will be able to deliver much higher quality video than H.264 or it can deliver quality comparable to H.264 even over slow networks such as mobile networks.

Qualcomm’s demo compares H.265 with H.264 – both videos are displayed using the Snapdragon processor.

The H.265 shows similar video quality as the H.264 while using about half the bandwidth – a big plus. Further, the H.265 files are about half the size, which is a big win in storing video.

H.264 (AVC) video:    Bit rate – 1,183 Kbps, File Size – 6.01 MB
H.265 (HEVC) video:    Bit rate –    610 Kbps, File Size – 3.10 MB

Everyone from Apple to Google, YouTube to Facebook and others will love H.265. Watch Apple and others to start using H.265 in their next generation products.

Security cameras also have a critical need for H.265 video (to deliver better quality real-time video over the network), look for H.265 IP cameras to start coming out.
