Southern India spot electricity prices, 6x higher than the rest of the country.

As shown in the spot electricity price graphs (above and below), the southern India electricity prices are more than 6x higher than the rest of the country.

Spot Electricity Prices in India

Southern India          6,000 to 20,000 INR / MWh
Rest of India            1,750 to 3,250 INR / MWh

Other than supply-exceeding-demand, the main cause for the high electricity prices – poor electricity distribution infrastructure in the south. The southern electricity grid is not well connected to the rest of the country.

Another interesting electricity price pattern in India is - the best spot electricity prices are around 7 pm. This is the time when day use ends and night-time electricity use starts.
