Tim Cook on Surface, Steve Ballmer on Tablets

It’s a fairly compromised, confusing product. I think one of the toughest things you do when you go about thinking about products to make is to make hard trade-offs and decide what a product should be. We’ve really done that with the iPad. And so the user experience is really incredible. I suppose you could design a car that flies and floats. But I don’t think it would do all of those things very well. I think when people look at the iPad and competitive offerings, they’re going to decide they want an iPad. I think they’ve done that and are going to continue to do so.

Neither of those companies "has a product that you can use, that lets you work and play, that can be your tablet and your PC. Not at any of those price points."

We’ll know who is right by January.
